The Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County is a civil organization founded in 2004, based in the city of Nyíregyháza in the North-East of Hungary. Its area of operation covers the whole of Hungary, and its services are aimed at blind and visually impaired people living in or outside Hungary.
The president of the organization regularly participates in advocacy, interest representation, and interest reconciliation discussions with decision-makers, and also intervenes on behalf of blind and visually impaired people in matters related to accessibility and barrier-free access.
The Association takes on state and municipal tasks, so it has designed its range of services to meet the needs and requirements of its target groups.
In addition, the Association operates a sound studio where thematic audiobooks, foreign language teaching materials, and notes are recorded. Talented visually impaired musicians are also given the oppportunity to record their tracks there.
Since we possess a Braille printer, we print our own magazines and also take individual orders.
Creating equal access is an important task of ours. We operate a round-the-clock information line called Telefotel, available in and outside Hungary at +36 42-220-640. On the Telefotel information line, volunteers inform on TV and radio programmes, leisure activities, special offers from pharmacies, drugstores, and hypermarkets, read daily prayers, weather forecasts and name day greetings.
In addition to our special services, we organise sports and community programmes, including a national Braille reading competition, hiking tours, a Braille marathon event, excursions, an online book club, and a smart club.
